Character(s): The Face
Publication: Big Shot No. 74
Publication Date: Feb. 1947
Publisher: Columbia Comic Corp.
The Face, a regular feature in a comic called Big Shot, was in
reality Tony Trent, a crusading radio newscaster. Trent used his position in the news biz
to dig up crime and injustice. In order to protect his identity, he wore a hideous mask
and called himself The Face whenever he went into action.
After 62 issues as The Face, Trent decided to join
the service to fight in World War II. During his wartime exploits, the title of the feature was changed to "Tony Trent"
and it became basically a war/espionage strip, with Trent usually in his military uniform, not The Face costume.
The Face and/or Tony Trent appeared in all 104 issues of Big Shot. The story reprinted here is a
flashback -- a previously untold pre-war adventure centered around a love interest, Babs Walsh. It is from Big Shot No. 74.
