I hope you enjoyed the fifth issue of Pure Excitement Comics! All of the back issues are still available online -- but at several diverse locations. Head back to my main page for links to all of the other issues!
Once again, I would like to plug my new site, Bill Nolan's Gallery of Golden Age Heroes. See the link in the column to the left. The gallery is updated once a week. I've also added a new feature to all my pages -- an e-mail update system. Just click on the link at the bottom of the page to join the mailing list and receive notification whenever one of my pages is updated!
If you enjoyed this issue (or not!) send in those letters to [email protected]. Your letter may be published in a future issue!
Here is a letter I received in response to the fourth issue:
Hi. As usual,
another excellent issue. I'm constantly amazed at all the material you
can produce here. This material just provides excellent research material
to people who want to learn about some of the more obscure heroes of the
'40s. I enjoyed learning more about Commander Steel, of whom I've only heard
snippits of information. Maybe sometime, you should create your own comic
book with the heroes that you cull from the public domain. It's
something you should at least think about. Anyway, this is a great place
to sit down, take off your socks and put your feet on the table.
You can just relax and enjoy a simpler time.
Bestest, Neil A. Hansen
A comic book featuring new material based on
the Golden Age heroes featured here -- another great idea! Unfortunately, I have absolutely no artistic
ability, but I would love to write such a comic. I just need to hook up with an artist with
a similar love for this period of comic book history. I could even avoid the high cost of publishing
and distributing a comic by "printing" it online! Of course, then I would need to find an artist willing
to work for nothing. Any volunteers?
See ya next month, everybody, when Pure Excitement Comics features three more great heroes from the Golden Age!
I am not ashamed to admit that I bought this incomplete copy of Star Spangled Comics no. 36 for
one reason only -- to read a Golden Age Liberty Belle story! And, boy, was it worth it! This issue also
features Robotman, Star Spangled Kid, and Guardian/Newsboy Legion stories. If anyone has a copy of this comic
and would be willing to send me copies/scans of the four centerfold pages, I would really appreciate it!
